In the upcoming 2020/21 season, LA-based Mezzo-Soprano (in her fifth season with LA Master Chorale) Shabnam Kalbasi will be heard as alto soloist of the annual performance of The Messiah at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Kalbasi was featured as a soloist on the Grammy Award-Winning record, Ives: Complete Symphonies with the LA Phil, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. A member of SAG-AFTRA & AGMA, Kalbasi has been featured on Star Wars: The Rise of Sky Walker and the upcoming Disney film, Jungle Cruise. In early 2020, Miss Kalbasi continued her relationship with LA Opera, performing in the Marriage of Figueroa Demonstration Tour and Juhi Bansal’s new commissioned work, We all look to the Stars. In 2019, Kalbsi was a resident vocalist in Spoleto’s Incontri Musicali Chamber Festival, the alto soloist in Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with Claremont College Orchestra, and the alto soloist in Reena Esmail’s This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity. In earlier seasons with the chorale, Kalbasi soloed in Israel in Egypt and in Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Ellen Reid’s Dreams of a New World. Ms. Kalbasi has been vocally recognized by the George London Foundation, Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions, Palm Springs Opera Guild, and Vocal Arts D.C. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, the Broad Stage, National Sawdust, and has worked with Santa Fe Opera, LA Opera, Memphis Opera, New York City Opera, and Venture Opera. Ms. Kalbasi continues to enjoy work in both contemporary and classical spaces as she expands her repertoire each season.
